“ADOPT A SAILOR” LIFTS ANCHOR FOR FESTIVAL CIRCUIT

FUNNY AND MOVING FILM BY FIRST TIME DIRECTOR STARS EMMY AND TONY WINNERS

LOS ANGELES, Calif --- Adopt a Sailor, a feature film written and directed by Charles Evered is an official selection at the 2008 Williamstown Film Festival in Williamstown, Mass. Film will screen Friday, October 24th at 2pm at the Images Cinema in downtown Williamstown.

The film --- which stars Emmy and Tony Award winner Bebe Neuwirth, (Cheers, Chicago) Emmy winner Peter Coyote, (E.T., Erin Brockovich) and Ethan Peck, grandson of film great Gregory Peck ---tells the story of a sophisticated couple from New York City who forget they volunteered to “adopt” a sailor for dinner during Fleet Week. Film was produced by California based WonderStar Productions, Kim Waltrip, Producer, Michael Marix, Executive Producer.

Writer and director Evered, who studied with George Roy Hill at Yale ---is a former lieutenant in the navy reserves. Commenting on the release of his film, Evered states: “Kim and I are very proud of Adopt a Sailor. This is not a political film, even though it deals with universal themes relating to war. Really, this is a film that tells the story of three strangers who in the course of one evening, become a family.”

Producer Waltrip adds: “The response from audiences thus far has been amazing. Adopt a Sailor seems to touch everyone, no matter what political party they are in, no matter what part of the country they come from. There is something very universal about this story that resonates with everyone who sees it.”

According to Steve Lawson, Executive Director of the Williamstown Film Festival: “When you’ve known an artist for two decades, it’s fun to be able to trace his growth and development. I am delighted to be presenting the world premiere of Adopt a Sailor. As someone who has worked in both theatre and film, I’m very glad to know a guy like Chuck, whose talent moves so admirably --- and eloquently --- between the two disciplines. It’s a pleasure to welcome him back to WFF.”

Adopt a Sailor was filmed on both coasts --- on a converted soundstage in California----as well as on an amphibious war ship in New York harbor. The production had the full co-operation of the US Navy, which saved the producers millions in production costs. Explains producer Waltrip: “For a so called “small” film, this project was produced on a very ambitious scale. We shot on the active deck of the USS Wasp, in Times Square, on the Upper West side of Manhattan, at Lincoln Center, in Port Authority Bus Terminal and 3000 miles away in California. It’s a small production---- but with a huge scope.”
